Gemla
This is a collaboration between Gemla and our university Brobygrafiska.
Gemla is Sweden's oldest furniture manufacturer founded in 1861 and are today the only ones mastering the art of steam taming wood. They carefully choose methods and materials to ensure that their products obtain highest quality possible. Their philosophy is to create timeless pieces with natural, durable, solid materials to be enjoyed for several generations.

Gemla contacted us to develop a packaging solution that matches their high standards of materials and sustainability to not only meet but exceed the customers' expectations. We constructed a packaging using corrugated cardboard, biodegradable natural rubber, and a Nordic traditional fabric called wadmal made from 100% recycled wool fibers.

Co-owners:
The concept includes a return service that gives the customer the opportunity to send back the flattened empty packaging and reduce their shipping fee. The customer simply slides the top and bottom part together into a smaller box that contains the protective layer of wadmal the furniture comes draped in. They use the natural rubber bands to secure the box to the flattened part and simply mails the packaging back to Gemla.
Using this model, Gemla can use the same materials repeatedly to its fullest potential, and when the time comes, make sure that it is properly recycled. This way Gemla can take responsibility for all material leaving their factories.
In this project we also worked on updating Gemla:s website and logo to give them both higher usability and a stronger identity to acknowledge Gemlas position within the swedish high end furniture segment.
